Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last week feeder steers 600 to 650 lbs. were 11.00 higher nd 650 to 800 lbs. were 2.00 to 8.00 higher. Feeder heifers 500 to 550 lbs. were 2.00 higher; 600 to 650 lbs. were 2.00 lower and 700 to 750 lbs. were 6.00 higher. The weather finally cooperated and feeders were moved to the sale this week. Todays offering consisted of small stings to a number of load lots. Buyer demand was very good for todays offering. Most feeders were in light to moderate plus flesh condition. This could be one of the last big sales for the spring as the numbers on the farm appear to have moved to market earlier this year due to drought and feed concerns. Today was a Herford influence special and there some top quality steers and heifers in the offering. Next week will have number of replacement heifers in the offering.
