Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
Where do these numbers come from?

Compared to last week the market was much higher with steers 450 to 500 lbs. 2.00 higher; 500 to 700 lbs. were 5.00 to 7.00 higher and 750 to 800 lbs. were 7.00 higher. Heifers were all higher with 450 to 500 lbs. 5.00 higher; 500 to 600 lbs. were 10.00 higher and 600 to 650 lbs. were 5.00 higher. Very good demand for todays offering with new buyers at ringside. Many nice strings of heifers and steers as well as load lots in todays offering. Most feeders were in moderate flesh condition especially the heavier weights. Most calves are still coming right off the cow and being marketed. Shots are still proving to be necessary for premium prices from buyers. Sale previously scheduled for Saturday December 4th has been canceled. There will be two more Wednesday sales this year with last one scheduled for Wednesday December 15th.
