Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 650 lbs steady to 3.00 lower, instances to 5.00 lower, 650-800 lbs unevenly steady, over 800 lbs 2.00 to 4.00 higher with instances to 5.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 600 lbs steady to 3.00 higher, over 600 lbs 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Good to very good demand for this large offering of attractive, weaned steers and heifers. Many long strings in the offering, many offered in full loads , along with numerous smaller consignments. The cattle were very eye appealing as they were long haired, bloomy, and clean. The very mild weather has allowed cattle to grow easily and stay clean. Flesh condition light to moderate. The market was active as there were plenty of buyers ringside actively bidding.
