Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last week feeder steers traded mixed with 500 to 550 lbs 2.00 lower; 550 to 650 lbs. were 3.00 to 7.00 higher and 650 to 750 lb. .steers were steady to 1.00 higher. Feeder heifers 500 to 600 lbs. were steady to 2.00 higher compared to last week . Other weights of steers and heifers did not have the numbers for a comparison from last week. Buyer demand was good this week with new buyers in attendance this week. Lighter weight steers and heifers were not in demand like the heavier weight calves this week. Most buyers want calves with shots and bid higher on these lots. A smaller run of yearlings this week. Most spring calves coming to the sale are off the cow and not weaned.
