Board and Pre-Lotted Sales along with regular sale. *Board Sale* report can be found under Jackson County Regional -Board Sale. *Pre-Lotted* Wirt Co. pool test found below under Steers - Medium and Large 1-2 and Heifers - Medium and Large 1-2. All other classes regular weekly sale test. Ample demand and larger offering than last week with larger run of quality feeder cattle. Stronger demand across the board for feeders; 4 weight steers higher $13-$18, 5 weights by $3-$8, 6 weights $18-35. Feeder heifers: 4 weights higher $2-$7, 5 weights higher $8-$10, 6 weights higher $7. Feeder bulls higher: 4 weights $10-$24, 5 weights $2-$4, and 6 weights $3-$4. Slaughter cattle: breakers and boners steady, lean higher by $4.50, bulls higher $3. Heiferettes, $70. Feeder pigs up to $45, slaughter hogs, $47.

Reading this report

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
