Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the

Lower offering compared to last reported with feeder demand weakening. 400 weight steers sold lower $12/cwt, 5 weights lower $10/cwt and light 6 weights lower by $15/cwt while heavy 6's sold steady. 400 weight feeder heifers $10-15/cwt lower, 5 weights lower by $10/cwt, 6's lower $8-12/cwt. Feeder bulls $5-15/cwt lower. Demand slightly stronger for slaughter cattle, Breakers averaging higher by $6/cwt and Boners by $3/cwt, no test on Leans. Slaughter Bulls sold steady. Heiferettes, $56-$90. Feeder pigs $20-$27.50, slaughter hogs $33-$40.
