Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

A light offering today with too few comparisons to develop an accurate price trend, lower undertones noted in both steers and heifers. Good to very good demand for this light offering of packages and a handful of loads. Cattle which could fit grass programs saw very good demand. Quality was mostly attractive today and flesh varied from light to moderate plus. An active market with order buyers and some farmer feeder attending the sale. Some winter weather is in the forecast for this weekend and snow and rain mix several days next week with temperatures only in the 30's, not great weather for calving. No sale next Friday due to Good Friday, next feeder cattle sale is Friday, April 22. Happy Easter!!
