Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last week: best test on steers 600 to 650 lbs and 750 to 800 lbs 2.00 to 4.00 higher. Best test on heifers 600 to 650 lbs mostly steady, 700 to 750 lbs 6.00 to 7.00 higher with instances up to 12.00 higher. Good to very good demand for today's offering featuring many loads and packages. Many attractive quality cattle to choose from, most in moderate to moderate plus flesh with some heavy flesh at times. Cattle suitable to go to grass continue to see very good demand as the supply dwindles weekly. An active market for this offering with buyers and a few farmer feeders in the seats today. Another windy day today with some winter weather expected to start on Sunday night and cold temperatures expected for next week.
