Compared to last week: steers from 600 lbs to 649 lbs and steers from 750 lbs to 949 lbs were mostly 8.00 to 12.00 lower, instances 15.00 lower, steers from 550 lbs to 599 lbs were steady to 2.00 lower, steers from 650 lbs to 699 lbs were 8.00 to 10.00 higher: heifers from 550 lbs to 599 lbs were steady to 3.00 lower, heifers from 600 lbs to 699 lbs were 10.00 to 12.00 lower, heifers from 700 lbs to 749 lbs were 8.00 to 10.00 higher. Good to very good demand for todays offering of mostly home raised cattle. Cattle had been fully vaccinated, long time weaned and ranged from light fleshed hay fed cattle to moderate plus coming out of a grow yard. Some of todays cattle were carrying some tag due to the mild weather conditions in the area. A wide range in quality today when compared to last week. Several long strings including one consignment of 8 loads in the same sort. Plenty of part loads and packages available today as well. An active market on all classes especially replacement heifers. Market on steers a little sluggish at times compared to last weeks sale. A house full of people with order buyers, internet buyers and farmer feeders trying to obtain cattle at their price. Futures market was substantially lower the last couple of days. Next feeder sale is scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2026.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Where do these numbers come from?

From the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service's Livestock Market News — federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the official USDA document at the top of the page.
