Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last week, slaughter cattle sold weak. Slaughter cows sold weak. Slaughter dairy cows sold steady. Slaughter bulls sold steady. Slaughter dairy bulls sold steady on a light comparison. Buyer demand was moderate on a moderate supply for the slaughter cattle sales. Feeder dairy calves sold weak. Buyer demand was light to moderate on a moderate supply for the feeder dairy calf sale. Slaughter wooled and shorn lambs and hair breed lambs sold weak. Buyer demand was moderate on a heavy to moderate supply for the slaughter sheep/lamb sale. Slaughter kid goats sold weak. Slaughter wether kids sold firm. Buyer demand was moderate on a moderate supply for the slaughter goat sale. Feeder pigs sold unevenly steady. Slaughter barrows and gilts sold weak. Slaughter sows sold steady. Slaughter boars sold firm on a light comparison. Buyer demand was moderate on a moderate supply for the slaughter hog sales. No comparison on all other commodities.
