Special Note: First CAB Feeder Cattle Special of 2024. Today at Fairview, concerns due to weather postponed delivery of local feeders and several load lots until the next feeder special scheduled for 01.18.24, A moderate offering of mostly attractive feeder cattle was met with moderate demand. 400-600lb feeder steers traded higher 14.00 as compared to a week ago. Above 600lbs traded mostly steady with a higher undertone. Feeder heifers 400-600lbs traded higher 10.00. Good demand continues for well conditined, multi vaccinated cattle with lighter demand for fleshy feeder cattle.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
