Included in the offering today were 6 load lots. Two upper 8wt load lots of steers sold from 188.00 to 194.00 cwt. Two lower 9wt load lots of steers sold from 185.25 to 191.50 cwt. One load lot of upper 9 wt heifers sold for 149.75. One load lot of upper 1000 wt heifers sold for 145.25 cwt. Compared to the last reported Fairview feeder special on 7/21/2022, steers under 600 lbs traded steady. Steers over 600 lbs sold mostly 20.00 to 25.00 higher. Heifers sold 5.00 to 18.00 higher. Trade was active with very good demand.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
