Compared to last week: Combined weighted average report for 4 Colorado auction markets included: Winter Livestock, La Junta Livestock, Sterling Livestock, and Livestock Exchange. Trade activity and demand Moderate to Very Good. Feeder Steers under 450 lbs sold 12.00 to 17.00 higher, 450-650 lbs sold 3.00 to 8.00 higher, and over 650 lbs mostly 10.00 to 16.00 higher. Feeder heifers across all weight classes sold mostly steady to 8.00 higher. Dairy feeder heifers over 800 lbs sold 1.00 to 3.00 higher with instances of 4.00 to 5.00 higher. Average dressing slaughter cows sold unevenly steady; average dressing slaughter bulls sold 3.00 lower. Due to the Veteran's Day Holiday, the next available report will be Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

Reading this report

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
