Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the
official USDA document at the top of the page.

Compared to last week: Combined weighted average report for 4 Colorado auction markets included: Winter Livestock, La Junta Livestock, Sterling Livestock, and Livestock Exchange. Trade activity and demand were moderate to good. Feeder steers under 400 lbs sold unevenly steady on a light test, and steers over 400 lbs were mostly 9.00 to 13.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 500 lbs sold mostly 1.00 to 4.00 lower, 500-600 lb 10.00 to 12.00 higher, and over 600 lbs 3.00 to 7.00 higher. Feeder dairy heifers sold mostly 4.00 to 6.00 higher. In the slaughter cow supply, average dressing Breakers sold 1.00 higher while average dressing Boners and Leans were 6.00 to 8.00 higher. Average dressing slaughter bulls sold 2.00 lower on a light test. The next available report will be Monday, February 14, 2022.
