Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last Monday the feeder market was stronger in spots with a good quality offering. Light weight feeder steers 200-350 lbs appeared slightly cheaper with a limited supply, while the 400-650 lbs steers were steady to 6.00 higher with a good supply and good demand. Yearling steers were mostly steady with a light test. Feeder heifers 200-400 lbs were sharply higher with a good supply, while the 400-500 lbs heifers were 1.00 to 3.00 lower and the 500-650 lbs heifers were 4.00 to 8.00 higher with good demand. Slaughter cows were 1.00 to 3.00 higher with a good supply and slaughter bulls were steady to 2.00 higher with good demand.
