Compared to last week, Steers sold steady to 5.00 lower on moderate demand. Heifers sold weak on a limited test this and last week. Dairy Steers and Dairy Heifers sold steady with a weak market undertone on comparable sales. All classes of Slaughter Cows sold mostly steady, with a firm market undertone for Breaking and Boning cattle, and a weak market undertone for Lean cattle. Slaughter Bulls sold steady to 2.00 lower. Overall demand and buyer attendance for the Slaughter Cattle sale was moderate, with moderate supply. Feeder Dairy Bull calves sold in a two-tiered market, with calves below 90lbs selling steady to weak, and calves above 90lbs selling steady to 10.00 higher on good demand. Feeder Dairy Heifer calves sold weak on a limited test this and last week. Overall demand for the calf sale was moderate on moderate supplies. Sale supply included; 263 steers. 237 heifers, 334 cows, 110 bulls, 651 calves, and 147 misc. cattle.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
